Laos

Laos is a small country situated in South-east asia..The closest neigbours are China to the north, Myammar (Burma) to the west, Vietnam to the east, Camdodia to the south , and Thailand in the south west. The capital city is Vietiane. Throughout most of the country, the climate is hot and tropical, with the rainy season between May and October when temperatures are at their highest. The dry season runs from November to April, which is the best time to visit as the temperature is at its most comfortable. The topography of Laos is largely mountainous, with elevations above 500 meters typically characterized by steep terrain, narrow river valleys, and low agricultural potential. This mountainous landscape extends across most of the north of the country, except for the plain of Vientiane and the Plain of Jars in Xiangkhoang Province. The southern panhandle of the country contains large level areas in Savannakht and Champasak provinces that are well suited for extensive paddy rice cultivation and livestock raising. Much of Khammouan Province and the eastern part of all the southern provinces are all mountainous. The other major geograhical feature of Laos is the Mekong river. The alluvial plains, terraces and tributaries of the Mekong river cover 20% of the country's land area.

Laos occupies a total area of 236,800 sq km of which 230,800 sq km is on land. It is landlocked by a 5,083 km long boundary.

Laos has a population of 6,677,534. It is a growing country. Many people are employed to do farming.. Most people grow their own food. Natural resources include timber, hydropower, gypsum, tin, gold and gemstones. Laos' major trading partners includeThailand, China, Mongolia and some European countries as well as Australia.

Laos imports milk , cigarettes, gold, oils, and petrol into the country. Laos exports rice, wheat to other countries but not Asian countries since they can grow their own.
